A diamante poem is a poem made of seven lines of words that are arranged in a special diamond-like form.
  1. Diamante poem is seven lines long.
  2. The first and last poetic lines have one word. The second and sixth poetic lines have two words. The third and fifth poetic lines have three words. ...
  3. Poetic Lines 1, 4, and 7 have nouns. 
  4. Poetic Lines 2 and 6 have adjectives. 
  5. Poetic Lines 3 and 5 have verbs.

A diamante poem can be used in two ways, either comparing and contrasting two different subjects, or naming synonyms at the beginning of the poem and then antonyms for the second half for a subject.
